Kia has announced a partnership with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to launch a PBV-based free delivery service for fresh food targeting elderly residents in regions facing population decline. The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding at the Government Complex in Seoul on the 24th to alleviate the ‘food desert’ phenomenon in rural and fishing villages and improve living conditions to help address regional extinction. Under the service, residents aged 65 and older can order fresh food through a dedicated landline call center, and Kia’s PV5 Cargo vehicles equipped with mobile refrigerators and freezers will deliver the items to local community centers or village halls for on-site pickup and payment. Kia will support the vehicles and secure affordable fresh food through contracts with local grocery stores, while the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will establish operational infrastructure such as vehicle depots and charging stations and foster village enterprises and social cooperatives to support the project.
